Teleflex vs. Uflex

We compared two hydraulic steering systems on identical 20-footers. Teleflex’s Bay Star fends off a challenge from Uflex’s HYCO.

Uflex USA Inc., based in Sarasota, Fla., is trying to muscle in on Teleflex’s territory with its HYCO hydraulic steering system for boats with outboards up to 150 horsepower. The Uflex system competes directly with Teleflex’s Bay Star hydraulic system, which has been on the market since September 2001. The Uflex HYCO was introduced about nine months ago.


Both the UFlex (top) and the Teleflex come with helm pump, outboard cylinder, tubing, and oil.
In the June issue, we published a report that compared six different 150-hp outboards. All were tested on identical Angler 204FX center consoles. These six boats were equipped with Uflex HYCO steering systems. …
