Anchors For Muck, For Under 200 Bucks

Four Danforth types score well in setting and holding tests. But the $79 Claw, a Bruce knockoff, takes top honors. The $34 Hooker earns a Best Buy. The Box, Barnacle, and the Sascot Plough failed to hold well.


The Claw earned PBR’s recommendation with stellar performance—second only to more expensive Danforth types—and a low price.
In a perfect world we’d be able to glide into our favorite anchorage during peak season, spill out a comforting 7:1 scope, and retire below without worry. In reality, favorite anchorages are often crowded, and we’re forced to use less than optimal scope.
