Trolling Motor Test
Minn Kota's 3X steering and ergonomic features push the RT80/S-3X past the competition in the 80-lb. thrust class. In the 50-lb. class, we like the no-frills MotorGuide SW46 HT.

Inshore fishing ranks high on the list of uses for electrically powered trolling motors. They can also provide propulsion on small boats for a variety of other activities. Everyone knows about the famous big-name bass fishermen who use them chasing large purses in sponsored circuit fishing tournaments. The largest group of users by far, though, is average everyday freshwater anglers, who traverse literally thousands of lakes all across the country in hot pursuit of bass and crappie. Saltwater fishermen use them too, from New England to Florida to the Pacific Northwest. Theyre part of the gear needed to make quiet stealthy approaches on fish as varied as tarpon and stripers.
