Donzi 35 ZF: Hold On Tight
This flashy center console rides well in a chop and gets relatively good gas mileage with twin Mercury Verado four-strokes. We’ve seen better on-deck fishing equipment, however.

The Donzi with 250-hp Mercury Verado four-strokes is most fuel efficient1.6 miles per gallonwhile running at 4500 rpm or at nearly 40 mph. This is pretty good in comparison to mileage numbers at the same speed logged by similar-sized center consoles PBR has tested over the past two years.

What a difference a month makes when youre a boat tester for Powerboat Reports. Last month, we published a review of a traditional-looking, New England-style overnighter, the inboard-powered Mainship Pilot 34. Its a yachty boat, one that a sailor would migrate to if he were to join the Good side of the recreational boating Force. This month, we do a 180, with a fast, sleek-looking outboard-powered open fishing boat that Pam and Tommy Lee could easily fall in love with: the Donzi 35 ZF Open. About the only two things the Mainship and the Donzi have in common are that they both float and have LOAs in the mid-30s.
