Evinrude E-TECs
Bombardier says its new direct-fuel-injected outboards require no maintenance for the first 300 hours. We put that claim to the test in a long-term evaluation of a pair of 90-hp engines.

Just slam the throttles and go. The 90-hp Evinrude E-TECs have no break-in period. A single engine pushes our 22-foot Twin Vee Cat at 20 mph, as shown here.

Weve had nothing but good things to say about the new Evinrude E-TEC direct-fuel-injected, two-stroke outboard, giving it rave reviews in the April and July issues. Not only are they peppy, fuel-efficient, and light, the E-TECs dont have to be serviced until 300 hours, according to the manufacturer, Bombardier. Thats a heck of a long time if you consider that the average boater only operates his craft 50 hours a season. It almost sounds too good to be true.
We aim to find out.
