Garelick and Armstrong sport ladders step all over the competition in our tests for stability, stowability and ease of use. West Marine and Dixon offer the best latch ladders. For occasional use, a hook-type from Garelick should do the job.

Our testers ranged from this 60-lb. child to a
û250-lb. adult.

When you get off your boat to take a swim, scrub the bottom or swap a prop, you’re going to need a safe way to get back on board. Problem is many boats have no fixed method of reboarding—or that method fails to do the job.

The swim platform on our 21' Neptune walkaround, for instance, has only one step (and, of course, the boat has no transom handrail), making it impossible for anyone with limited upper-body strength to climb. …
