Hydra-Sports 2800 Walkaround

The Vector Series’ largest vessel mixes a surplus of fishing equipment and overnight accommodations. The 2800WA comes with an impressive list of standard equipment, and we like its big cockpit. Our test ride was rough, however, and the fuel tank installation worries us.

Hydra-Sports holds a major position in the fish-boat market, along with Pro-Line, Pursuit, Grady-White and a few others. Boatbuilding giant Genmar rescued the company after its former owner, OMC, went bankrupt about a year and a half ago. Genmar, we’re told, is honoring all warranty claims for Hydra-Sports boats purchased when OMC held the reins. (OMC built only two of this model before Genmar took over.)

The 2800WA is a lot of boat for a 28-footer, with its expansive stretches of deck, high freeboard, raised helm, big cabin and seemingly bottomless cockpit. It was impressive at the dock, like a highly muscled bodybuilder showing off his physique. We wondered just…
