Yamaha Edges Honda In Big Four-Stroke Shootout

Both are impressive, but over the long haul we’d opt for the Yamaha. Besides holding a slight performance edge, Yamaha offers a 3-year extended warranty and has more than twice as many service centers nationwide.


We ran both engines on nearly identical 23'
ûflat boats from Ranger. Both worked well, but

Normally, setting up a test in which we operate two different motors on identical boats is a logistical nightmare, one that takes dozens of phone calls, the cooperation of two engine manufacturers and a boatbuilder, and sometimes flying to a test site in the middle of nowhere. We lucked out this time. At February’s Miami International Boat Show, a Honda engineer pointed out that both the Honda BF225 and Yamaha F225 four-strokes were mounted on identical 23' saltwater flats boats.
