Azimut 39: Beautiful, Yes, Easily Serviced, No
This Italian boatbuilder's 39 express yacht is well-constructed and designed but lacks adequate access to the twin diesels. It also needs tighter steering and a safer upper helm station .

An overall view of the Azimut 39 shows its dis- ûtinctive styling.

Italian yacht builder Azimut, founded by Paulo Vitelli in 1969, builds 11 luxury cruising models from 39 to 100 feet. That makes our test boat the smallest in the lineup, but there are more similarities, including basic construction methods and materials and joinery quality, than differences between the 39 and remainder of the fleet. The company has been a leader overseas in fiberglass technology, producing the first all-fiberglass yacht over 100 feet in 1983. Azimut also owns five other shipyards, including the Italian megayacht builder Benetti, which builds some of the finest steel yachts in the world.
