Bose 131 Takes Top Honors, poly-planar MA5107 a Best Buy

The Bose 131 is the most expensive pair of
ūspeakers tested ($240), but was a top perfor-
ūmer and of very high quality.

Everyone likes music, and though there are wrong times for it on the water (such as when navigating through a fog or when fishing), listening to your favorite tunes certainly enhances your mood when you deem it the right time.

Speakers, of course, are critical components of any stereo system. Quality speakers can make a so-so receiver sound good; and by the same token, poor speakers can ruin the sound coming from a top-quality receiver.

Speakers and receivers should be matched in terms of power, usually expressed in watts. Cheap, low-power receivers may not be able to drive expensive power-hungry speakers. Similarly, low-rated light-duty speakers can be blown out by high-powered receivers…
