Cabo 35

With non-corroding fiberglass fuel tanks, quality construction and superb fit & finish and attention to detail, the 35 Express nearly justifies its high price. Its head-sea ride remains its Achilles heel. Better visibility at the helm is needed, also.


With a new hull design, the Cabo’s ride has
ûindeed improved but still could be a lot better,
in our opinion.

The first Cabo 35 was built in 1991, and the California boatbuilder has launched close to 400 hulls since then. The original 35, very well built and in a class with Viking for its engineering and fit-and-finish, unfortunately rode hard and wet. But the solid construction, mirror-smooth bilges, textbook wiring, and overall attention to detail made the boat popular. In fact, Cabo developed a cult following, in spite of the limitations of the hull shape—too flat-bottomed and full-figured forward. In a nutshell, the deadrise at the entry was too shallow, the chines forward too close to the waterline, and their beam carried too far forward, preventing the boat from delivering…
