| Durability Update We continue to beat the snot out of a pair of Suzuki 90-hp four-strokes and a single Mercury OptiMax 150. They're holding up commendably.
The 150-hp Mercury OptiMax outboard (2002) we're testing has run impressively, piling up 110 hours (as of late August) of fuel-efficient operation with only one mechanical problem, one which was traced back to the location of the engine's key switch. At about 25 hours, the engine would not start. It was dead at the slip. Technical advisor and Mercury certified mechanic Erik Klockars discovered that the starter was "toasted." The key switch had been getting stuck in the start position, which caused the starter to continue cranking while the motor was running.
