Radar Reflectors: Tri-Lens Overtakes Davis Echomaster

Radar may be a skipper's best defense against collision at sea. But not everyone can afford today's units, which can cost several thousand dollars. The next best thing is a radar reflector.

ûour previously recommended reflector, the
ûDavis Echomaster, at about double the price.

In the February 1996 issue, we reported the results of radar reflector testing done at the Stanford Research Institute in Palo Alto, California. This was made possible thanks to Dick Honey, then a semi-retired senior principal scientist at SRI, uncle to former SRI research engineer Stan Honey (also the guy who puts the yellow first-down band across the screen of your TV during pro football games). Stan also assisted, as did West Marine VP of product development Chuck Hawley and a third member of this Bay Area brain trust, Jim Corenman. …
