Hull Blisters: Know the Enemy

Some builders continue to use materials and techniques known to be susceptible to the those horrible hull blemishes. It pays to remember the nature of the blister, while eternal vigilance is called for.

good to know there are pros out there if we
need them.

In 1990 we published Comtex Development's definitive findings about the causes of blisters on fiberglass hulls. The author was Rick Strand, then president of Comtex and former chief engineer at Tillotson-Pearson boatbuilders in Rhode Island. Today Strand runs a testing and consulting firm and lab under his own name in New Hampshire. Here's his update, 11 years down the line.
