Baja 292 Islander: More than Just a Girl-Getter

Flashy, lightweight 29-footer effectively combines speed, open space and ample seating in a bowrider with cruiser-like conveniences. A solid glass bottom—rather than wood-cored—would strengthen its appeal, however.


A fast ride to the picnic, the Baja 292 tops
out at nearly 45 knots. Hope for calm water,
though. The Islander pounded in moderate
conditions — a 2' chop.

For some reason, we think of the Baja 292 Islander as a girl-getter, but not in a macho way. It’s no testosterone-oozing muscleboat. We simply think this big bowrider, with its bright colors, flashy graphics and abundance of soft-cushioned seating areas, would have no trouble attracting women. And once aboard, the ladies would likely find it easy to get comfy in the “Euro-styled” deck and passenger areas that cleverly hide ample storage compartments. (The women posing for Baja’s catalog photography certainly look relaxed and happy.) …
