Honda Dethroned In Four-stroke Shoot-out

Yamaha suffers no sophomore slump, but Suzuki prevails in this 115-hp match-up. The heavier, more-expensive Honda lags behind but will always hold the edge when it comes to experience on the water.

Eighteen months ago, you couldn’t buy a four-stroke engine over 100 horsepower from anyone but Honda Marine. The company’s 115- and 130-hp motors dominated the market until late summer of 1999 when Yamaha’s 115 hit dealer showrooms. It took another year and half (December 2000) before Suzuki and Mercury crashed the party.

We’ve done nothing but praise the Honda BF 115 and BF 130 in our reports over the past three years (most recently in August 2000), highlighting their excellent fuel economy, durability and quiet operation. …
