Sea Ray Owners: Happy to Pay a Little More

They figure they've probably overpaid for their boat, but with an 88% overall approval rating—up three points from our '94 survey—Sea Ray owners certainly aren't complaining about it.


Sundancer owners made up nearly one-half of
ûour survey respondents. The 290 offers a nicely
ûappointed cabin and cockpit, with an improved
ûhelm station.

Something seems to have happened, quietly and subtly, over the past six years since we last surveyed Sea Ray owners (October 1994). Without much fanfare, without any of the hype that accompanied the introduction of Maxum as a luxury step-up from Bayliner (Brunswick owns all three), Sea Ray, already owning one of the best-known brand names in the business, has established itself among the “class” of sport cruisers. While Bayliner certainly outsells Sea Ray, especially among the smaller models, Sea Ray dominates the over-30-foot crowd, in both new and used boat sales. …
